    The visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Iraq is of great importance in both countries because of the important files of common interest it carries.

    The Turkish President announced earlier his intention to visit Iraq after the conclusion of the municipal elections scheduled to be held at the end of this March, pointing out that his visit will discuss joint security, water and diplomatic issues, as well as the issue of resuming the export of the region’s oil through the Turkish port of Ceyhan.
    It seems that Erdogan's bag will also carry files that are more important than the files that Erdogan presented to the media, the most important of which is the development path for which Iraq will be a starting point to pass to Europe via Turkey.
    This file is considered by Turkey as one of the files that will most revitalize its treasury in the future, and the key that will open wide doors for it and enhance its position in Europe.

    Businessmen and decision-makers in Iraq view the “Development Road” project, which is set to connect the Gulf to Europe via Turkey, as a promising opportunity to strengthen ties of shared history and culture with Turkey, as well as support common interests and economically remote regions.
    The start of the "development path" occupied an important place on the agenda of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan during his visit to Iraq between 22-24 August last year, and the talks held by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on 9-10 September this year, at the summit of leaders of a group of Twenty in New Delhi.
    Through the project, which includes a group of roads, railways, ports, and new cities, Iraq aims to shorten the travel time between Asia and Europe via Turkey, and to transform into a transit center through Al-Faw Port, which is the first stop in the project.
    However, in Iraq there is another talk, because there is great concern about Turkish practices in some files, such as its military presence in the north of the country, as well as the attempt to blackmail Iraq through the water file.
    This matter prompted Iraqi politicians to use the water file as a bargaining chip with the water file.
    The Parliamentary Oil and Natural Resources Committee confirmed, on Sunday, that the oil exports file will top the main files in the upcoming visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Iraq, warning that Turkey will bargain with Iraq regarding the water and oil files.

    Committee member Bassem Al-Gharibawi told Al-Maalouma, “The oil file is a major file present in all discussions with the Turkish side during Erdogan’s upcoming visit to Iraq.”
    He added, "The main dispute with the region revolves around the oil file and its exports towards the Turkish port of Ceyhan, so this file has priority in discussions and negotiations with Turkey to resolve the export issue and end the dispute with the region."
    He stated that "judicial decisions regarding oil exports to Turkey will come to the forefront of the Baghdad and Ankara discussions, despite the presence of some concerns regarding Turkey's exploitation of the water file to achieve its goals in some files, by seizing the decision in these files."
    For his part, a member of the Parliamentary Agriculture and Water Committee, Thaer Mohaif, confirmed that the water file is important and has priority among the files that will be discussed with Turkish President Erdogan during his upcoming visit to Iraq.
    Makhif told Al-Maalouma, “Despite the heavy rains in some winter seasons, they do not meet Iraq’s actual need for water, which makes it necessary for decision-makers to move towards the Turkish side to resolve this crisis and ensure a fair share for Iraq.”
