Today, Thursday, the Ministry of Immigration and Displacement announced the results of the comprehensive national plan to reduce illegal immigration, and while it confirmed that its rates have decreased significantly, it clarified its procedures in this regard.
Undersecretary Karim Al-Nouri said, “The rates of illegal immigration among Iraqis have decreased significantly for many reasons, including European rejection of the justifications for illegal immigration, especially since the situation in Iraq now is good compared to the situation in the previous regime,” noting that “there are about 30,000 Iraqi expatriates in Germany.” Only 60,000 Iraqis in the rest of the European countries.”
He added, "The second thing that also limited this migration was the quick Iraqi measures to stop travel to Belarus, which paved the way for the entry of Iraqis through mafias and human trafficking companies. Iraq also gave a clear message to the European Union, which was wary, but it now views the Iraqi measures as... Positive and respectful measures that take place in the context of international laws,” noting that “Iraq has proven that it is one of the countries that fights illegal immigration through education, awareness, and mutual visits with other countries.”
He explained, "The Ministry is now moving in the media direction to show the danger of illegal immigration, especially since there is European fear to receive Iraqis and some European countries and not allow Iraqis to migrate illegally, as Iraq warned early that some countries, for example, in Russia, when they open their borders, are only taking risks and trading with Iraqis."
He pointed out that "Iraq facilitated many procedures for the return of Iraqis and demanded that the European Union provide some privileges and capabilities for the return of Iraqis to their homes."
