    Baghdad today - Erbil
The worsening economic crisis in the Kurdistan region has affected various aspects of life in northern Iraq, while the Kurds are trying to attract “Arab” landlords from the center and south of the country, to regularly disburse their salaries, which contribute to paying rent without any problems.
     Salary crisis
The Kurdistan region is facing a major financial crisis that makes it unable to pay the salaries of its employees, after the export of Kurdistan oil through Turkey stopped, at a time when the region looks to Baghdad as responsible for providing the salaries of its employees and supporting the region with all its financial needs, after the condition of delivering the region’s oil to Baghdad was fulfilled.
The population of Kurdistan is about 6 million and 33 thousand people, including 1.2 million government employees, and the region needs 895 billion dinars ($614 million) per month to distribute salaries, that is, about 10 trillion and 740 billion dinars ($7 billion and 368 million dollars) annually. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
    High rent allowances
The head of the Landlords Association in Kurdistan, Barham Sardar, confirmed today, Tuesday (September 26, 2023), that rent allowances were greatly affected by the financial crisis in the region.
Sardar told "Baghdad Today": "The presence of Arab citizens from central and southern Iraq has affected and raised rental prices."
He points out that "property owners always prefer to rent their homes to (Arabi), because it guarantees regular payment of rent, as a result of the absence of a financial crisis among employees in other governorates."
He points out that "the return of the displaced to their liberated areas after their stability affected rental fees and led to a reduction in prices over a period of time."
The average rental price for average residential units in the center of Erbil is $400, and about $300 to $200 outside the city and on its outskirts.

    Polarizing Arabs
The economic activity in the region flourishes during the holiday seasons, as the attention of many families, delegations and tourist groups from the center and south of the country turn to the northern governorates, in search of rest and recreation in the many tourist sites in the region.
The head of the Tourism Authority in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Amal Jalal, indicated on (June 30, 2023) that “the numbers of arrivals have doubled significantly this season compared to what was witnessed last year 2022, and that the estimated number of tourists during the Eid al-Adha holiday reached 400 thousand tourists.” .
