    Economy News - Baghdad
Today, Sunday, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, called on the countries neighboring Iraq to increase the water quota.
During the Fourth Baghdad International Water Conference, Aboul Gheit expressed his "thanks to the Iraqi government and its determination to hold the Fourth Baghdad Water Conference," stressing "the Arab League's support for the Baghdad Water Conference."
He continued, "This conference will achieve its goals in drawing a comprehensive vision of the water situation in Iraq with all its challenges and complexities and deepening the understanding of those challenges in the presence of the national sectors and neighboring countries," indicating that "the water situation in Iraq still constitutes pressure despite the government's efforts to implement projects."
He pointed to "the common challenges that Arab countries face in the field of water, as well as the special challenges that some countries face because of their geography, as 80 percent of the water in the Arab world comes from outside the Arab countries," noting that "the water issue is an existential issue linked to Arab national security."
