Gold Falls After Data on Inflation in America
16/9/2017 12:00 am [rtl](Reuters) - Spot gold fell on Friday, coinciding with strong US inflation data that boosted interest rates again. By 0733 GMT, spot gold fell 0.2 percent to $ 1326.70 an ounce. The precious metal has fallen more than 1 percent since the beginning of the week, heading for the first weekly loss in four weeks. Gold futures for December delivery rose 0.1 percent to $ 1,331 an ounce. Geopolitical risks could boost demand for safe assets such as gold and the Japanese yen. The yen fell against the dollar on Friday, after rising earlier supported by news of the launch of the missile, as the US currency received support in the strong data of US consumer price inflation. "I think the market is increasingly focused on the Federal Reserve and the possibility of raising interest rates again this year," said Daniel Hans, an analyst at ANZ. The next monetary policy meeting is due to begin on September 19. The rise in interest rates supports the dollar and bond yields while imposing pressure on gold. Among the other precious metals, silver settled little changed at $ 17.75 per ounce and was heading for the first weekly loss in four weeks. Platinum fell 0.2 percent to $ 976.74 an ounce, falling more than 2 percent since the start of the week, heading for the biggest weekly loss since early May. Palladium rose 0.2 percent to $ 932.95 after hitting its lowest level in four weeks on Thursday.
