President Fuad Masum met Saturday with US President Bill Clinton's envoy, Brett McGurk, to urge the House of Representatives to convene in a timely manner the constitution officially announced, while the latter renewed US support for the stability of Iraq.
"The infamous envoy of US President Donald Trump to Iraq, Brett MacGork, and his accompanying delegation, including US Ambassador to Iraq Douglas Seelman, received a copy of a statement issued by Mawazine News.
"The meeting reviewed the ways to strengthen the relations of cooperation between the two countries and the two friendly peoples, as well as the overall political and security developments in Iraq and the region," the statement said, expressing appreciation for the continued US support for Iraq in various fields.
"The commitment to invite the Iraqi Council of Representatives elected in the constitutional time officially announced," he stressed, "the importance of concerted efforts of Iraqis to address the Iraqi government next to achieve all the legitimate aspirations of the Iraqi people stability and progress and the provision of services."
"The United States supports the stability of Iraq and continues to provide the necessary assistance to Iraqis in all fields within the framework of the strategic agreement between the two countries," said Brett McGurk.
The President of the Republic, Fuad Masoum, (Monday, 27 August 2018), Presidential Decree No. (62) for the year 2018, inviting the House of Representatives for its fourth session to be held on 3/9/2018 and to preside over the session the oldest member.
