    BAGHDAD -
    The Supreme Council for Combating Corruption referred the files of nine senior officials to the Supreme Judicial Council, including ministers, deputy ministers and governors.
    "Based on the directive of the Prime Minister and in implementation of his speech to the Iraqi people on 9/10/2019, the Supreme Council for Combating Corruption has referred a significant number of corruption cases to the judiciary," the media office of the council said in a statement received. “This is related to nine senior officials, after strengthening the evidence, completing the fundamental procedures and forming a follow-up team in the Council, and holding coordination meetings with the judiciary to give them priority and resolve them as soon as possible.”
    "The cases referred relate to two former ministers and two undersecretaries in the ministries (industry and minerals, transport, higher education, health) and a former minister-level employee and four former governors in the provinces of Babylon, Kirkuk, Nineveh and Salah al-Din," it said.
    He stressed that "other files will be referred successively to the judiciary duly to acquit or convict the defendants in accordance with the law."

    The Supreme Council for Combating Corruption has referred a number of corruption cases to the judiciary, involving nine senior officials.
    A statement issued by the office of Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi said that the cabinet referred the files under the guidance of the prime minister, after strengthening them with evidence, completing the fundamental procedures and forming a follow-up team in the council, and holding coordination meetings with the judiciary in order to give them priority and resolve them as soon as possible.
    The cases referred relate to two former ministers and two undersecretaries in the ministries (Industry and Minerals, Transport, Higher Education, and Health), a former minister-level employee and four former governors in the governorates (Babylon, Kirkuk, Nineveh and Salah al-Din).
    Other cases will be duly referred to the court to acquit or convict defendants in accordance with the law.
