    Iranian exports to Iraq came through the Parviz Khan port, which is one of the most important ports through which Iranian trade passes to Iraq. They rose by 36% in weight and 18% in value during the first half of the current year compared to last year, bringing the value of exports to $2.5 billion, according to what the relevant Iranian authorities announced, today, Monday (October 23, 2023).
    The Director General of Customs at the Parviz Khan border crossing in the Iranian province of Kermanshah, Qassem Mutalabi, said, “In the first six months of this year, exports of goods from the Parviz Khan border increased by 36% in weight and 18% in value compared to the same period of the previous year.” ".
    Iraq is at the forefront of countries importing goods from Iran, with the value of its annual imports of non-oil exports amounting to about 9 billion dollars.
    Observers consider that a mystery surrounds the issue of trade exchange between Iraq and Iran, especially since the numbers are constantly rising, especially in light of the continued depletion of Iraq’s funds without serious work to save the agricultural or industrial situation.
    A senior official in the Iraqi Ministry of Commerce said, “Openness to Iranian goods has become a political norm that has been binding on successive Iraqi governments for more than 16 years. It has been confirmed verbally within most political negotiations, and this is a well-known matter that does not need to be explained.”
    He added, requesting that his name not be mentioned, according to Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed newspaper, “Some of the import contracts are unclear, and the ministry has observed more than once a discrepancy between the products written on paper and what actually enters Iraq, which confirms the existence of suspicions of corruption and collusion on the part of Through special commercial networks under the title of trade to help Iran with hard currency.”
    In turn, economic expert Salam Sumaisem stated that “Iraq owned more than 150,000 factories, while its lands were considered among the most suitable agricultural lands in the region, but internal and external wills refuse to allow Iraq to return to its economic and commercial status.”
    She considered, "The chaos is clear with imports from Iran, and there are economic organizations working in this field, some of which are related to money laundering and smuggling, others that work with drugs, and others whose goal is to drain Iraq's resources for the benefit of Iran."
    Last April, Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, in a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Abdul Latif Rashid in Tehran, discussed Iranian plans to raise the value of its exports to Iraq to about 20 billion dollars annually, compared to 10 billion currently.
    Iran believes that economic relations are strengthening in the areas of infrastructure, water, electricity, gas, and energy.
