    Economy News - Baghdad
[rtl]The Ministry of Water Resources confirmed today, Friday, that the government has pushed the water file to be a sovereign file, noting that the government has strengthened the water negotiating team with professional figures. [/rtl]
[rtl]The ministry’s spokesman, Khaled Shamal, said: “The current government has pushed the water file to be a sovereign file and not just a technical or diplomatic one, and has strengthened the Iraqi negotiating team with professional figures to obtain water quotas from neighboring countries.”[/rtl]
[rtl]He added, "Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani's visits to neighboring countries and the media's handling of the water file pushed the negotiation file to advanced stages with neighboring countries," explaining that "in the near future there will be realistic steps toward Iraq's water shares."[/rtl]
[rtl]He continued, "The water situation in Iraq faces three challenges, the first of which is: Iraq's high dependence on water imported from outside Iraq, which constitutes 70% of total revenues. The second is the climate changes that caused the last four years to be scarce with little rainfall. The third is It is Iraq's delay in moving towards modern agriculture and advanced methods of opinion,” noting that “the government measures taken have contributed to improving the Iraqi water reality.”
Shamal continued, "The Prime Minister emphasized the implementation of a modern irrigation system, to enhance support for agriculture and reduce waste."[/rtl]
