While the government is preparing to officially announce the launch of the “Baghdad Metro” project, the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Transport Affairs, Nasser Al-Asadi, revealed that 5 million passengers will ride the “metro” daily, and while he confirmed the use of a train without a driver in this project, he warned It consists of 64 stations covering all areas of Baghdad.
Al-Asadi told “Al-Sabah”: “Several previously proposed projects were collected in the (Baghdad Metro) project, which will cover an area of 85 percent of Baghdad,” noting that “the length of the project is 148 km distributed over 64 stations, including 8 stations for transfer between tracks.” There will be 4 crossings between Karkh and Rusafa.”
He added, "The path will cover all places in Baghdad, including tourist areas and universities, as well as Islamic and Christian religious shrines, shopping centers, government ministries, relevant departments, hospitals, and all events located within the capital, Baghdad." He stated, "There is a path that connects to Baghdad International Airport linked to With four of the eight tracks, so that the traveler’s transportation process from any area in Baghdad to the airport is easy and convenient.
Al-Asadi explained, “The number of (Baghdad Metro) passengers is estimated at 5 million passengers per day, and this percentage is very large, as it is known that the percentage of passengers on trains It does not exceed 20 percent of the city’s population, but the method of planning the project will cover an area larger than this.”
He warned, “The train will be of international standards without a driver, so that its safety rates will be very high. It will take the main streets in Baghdad, and the stations will be in the middle of the road.” It has a bridge covering both sides of the road.”
He pointed out, “One train will consist of six carriages, each of which can accommodate 150 passengers, and there will be three classes in it, the first of which will be golden, which will be in a comfortable space for the passenger, and a carriage designated for women, infants, newborn children, and young people, and it will be on A high level of privacy for women, and another level for regular class passengers, in addition to seats designated for people with special needs. The pricing of this project will be through a feasibility study conducted by the Malaysian consultant chosen for this task, as his experience in this field is no less than 45 years.”
The Prime Minister's Advisor for Transport Affairs added, "The project will be launched this month through an official government announcement, mentioning all the details of the project, including the number of years it will take to establish it, after it was announced during Prime Minister Muhammad Shia'a Al-Sudani's meeting with his Spanish counterpart during his visit to Baghdad this week." the past."
He stated, “The consultant will study the types of systems existing in the world, to choose the best of them so that (Baghdad Metro) will be globally qualified to be used by the largest percentage of passengers and to cover the largest area of the capital, Baghdad.”
