It is hoped that the capital, Baghdad, will begin the first phase of converting waste into electricity by using a quarter of the waste generated daily in the capital, in a project that has been talked about for a long time but has not yet seen the light.

Member of the National Initiative to Support Energy and Reduce Emissions, Rahim Al-Jaafari, revealed in statements that “the Baghdad Municipality is working to establish a station to produce electrical energy by burning waste in a scientific manner and from the most advanced fourth generation,” stressing that “companies have applied for the investment opportunity that we announced and during the coming days it will be referred.” To a company to take its part in production.

He continued, "The first stage of producing electrical energy from waste uses 3,000 tons, as in Baghdad alone there are 12,000 tons of waste. We started with 3,000 and we will repeat the experience with other companies," noting that "there are old landfills that can be invested to produce energy." electricity through the use of methane gas emitted from it.

By dismantling this permit, 25% of the waste thrown out daily in Baghdad will be used to convert it into electrical energy through burning or through the use of methane gas generated from the decomposition of waste.

The average amount of waste that an Iraqi individual throws away per day is 1.5 kg, which means that one Iraqi family, with an average number of 5 members, throws 7.5 kg of waste per day. This means that the first phase of the project to convert waste into electrical energy will depend on the waste of 400,000 homes and families. In Baghdad at least.

Each ton of waste generates an average of 550 kilowatt-hours, which means that the 3,000 tons per day taken from 400,000 homes will be enough to generate 1,650 megawatt-hours. This amount provides electrical energy for 825,000 homes, and provides about 35% of the electricity. Generated from Iranian gas.
