The Ministry of Transport has prepared a plan to establish modern railways, while studying the reopening of the Railway Institute for Technical Training to students after it stopped receiving them since 2006.
Director of the Ministry’s Media Office, Maitham Al-Safi, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah” followed by “Al-Iqtisad News” that the Ministry is currently working To prepare an integrated plan for the development and construction of modern railways, pointing to an agreement made with the Department of Roads and Bridges for the purpose of modernizing old crossings and establishing regular crossings for road intersections with railway lines, to prevent accidents during the passage of ascending and descending trains, in conjunction with the launch of a campaign to end cases of overtaking at crossings. Railways in Baghdad and the provinces, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior and local governments, pointing out that there are promising plans to activate the railway sector, develop it, and provide it with the latest management and operating technologies, through contracting with international companies specialized in this field, as it has become a convenient and cheap means of transportation for citizens, especially during Million visits, religious occasions
and holidays.
Al-Safi added that the Ministry intends to rehabilitate the structure of the Railway Institute for Technical Training, which has been suspended for 18 years, and reopen it to students wishing to join it, and modernize its curricula and strengthen it with the teaching staff, noting that the last course that graduated from it was in the year 2006.
