    Member of Parliament Sabah Sheikh Habib said today, Wednesday (February 21, 2024), that there are 5 objective reasons that make Baghdad qualified to host the 2025 Arab Summit, while he ruled out the existence of political obstacles to this hosting.
    Habib said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “Baghdad hosted the Arab summit in 2012, despite the security challenges at that time, and the situation now has differed greatly in terms of stability and the extent to which the security forces were able to impose their control over all regions, and the battle with terrorism is approaching its end with There are scattered remnants in some areas, but the general conditions are largely stable.”
    He added, "Baghdad is prepared to host the 2025 Arab Summit for five objective reasons, the first of which is Baghdad's pivotal role in the region and the importance of solutions to crises coming through it because of its close relations with all parties, in addition to the fact that all countries have come to realize that the security of the region passes through Iraq, stressing that the possibility of The conflict between the armed factions and America affecting the holding of the summit is out of the question because it is a conflict that has political determinants and cannot take on a larger and broader scope.”
    Sheikh Habib ruled out that "there will be obstacles to holding the Arab summit in Baghdad for political reasons because everyone realizes that the crises in the Middle East cannot be resolved without dialogues with all relevant parties and an emphasis on unity of ranks regarding important issues in the region in general."
    The representative added, "Holding the summit will bring positives for Baghdad in terms of its ability to impose security and give messages to public opinion about the extent of stability that will bring investments and projects and confirm Baghdad's pivotal role in the region."
    Yesterday, Tuesday (February 20, 2024), Iraq announced the submission of its request to host the 2025 Arab Summit in the capital, Baghdad, according to the government spokesman, Al-Awadi.
    Al-Awadi said in a statement: “In view of the restoration of Iraq’s deserved role regionally and globally, and in line with the government’s direction towards strengthening its position and conveying the true, positive image of it, which has begun to take hold instead of the distorted one, due to the difficult circumstances that our ancient country was able to overcome with the determination and sacrifices of its people.”
    The statement added: “Iraq has submitted a request to host the Arab Summit for the year 2025 in the capital, Baghdad, and the government seeks to complete the components of this hosting in a way that suits the guests from the leaders of Arab countries, in accordance with diplomatic norms and in accordance with the status and reputation of the host country. Therefore, the government has begun preparing and securing the necessary supplies for that.”
    The statement continued: “The isolation that Iraq suffered during the dictatorial regime, and our war against terrorism throughout the past era, did not provide the opportunity to rehabilitate the state’s basic infrastructure, allowing it to host important and large regional and global events, which missed many opportunities in which it could have played a role.” Iraq plays an active and influential role in the international arena.”
    He added: “In view of the above and in order to prepare for the Arab Summit in Baghdad in 2025, and other international events related to Iraq, which were previously held in neighboring or regional countries for the reasons mentioned above and to end this abnormal situation, there has become an urgent need to prepare the necessary infrastructure, including the rehabilitation of government hospitality headquarters.” "The deterioration is significant and clearly visible."
    The statement indicated: “After circulating a document on social media platforms indicating the rehabilitation of a number of (homes), it was necessary to note that the government has decided to comprehensively rehabilitate some of the presidential complexes, which include a number of major guest houses that were previously occupied by some ministers and representatives, which “It requires comprehensive maintenance and rehabilitation.”
    He continued, "The Ministry of Construction and Housing prepared the required statements in accordance with their price and technical specifications, and the Ministry of Planning presented them to the Council of Ministers for approval, and approval was obtained by the Council's decision on 2/7/2024."
    This summit, if held in Baghdad, will be the first after about 13 years of hosting the 2012 summit, and it will be the fourth summit hosted by Iraq, after the 1978, 1990, and 2012 summits.
