The Church sends scathing messages to the President of the Republic and cancels “Resurrection” celebrations in solidarity with Sako

The Chaldean Patriarchate sent scathing letters to the President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Rashid, in which it expressed its strong rejection of the decision to withdraw Republican Decree No. (147), which stipulates the appointment of Sako as Patriarch of the Chaldeans in Iraq and the world, deciding to cancel Easter celebrations in solidarity with the Patriarch.
A statement to the Patriarchate media stated:
We are approaching the glorious Feast of Resurrection (March 31), which culminates the procession of Great Lent, the time of sacrifice and offering of suffering with Christ, and because this occasion is an occasion of spiritual sentiment that the hearts of believers experience in a spirit of hope despite all the pain, distress, and challenges that surround them.
Within the framework of these circumstances, both ecclesiastical and spiritually, the Chaldean Patriarchate announces the cancellation of all parties, media coverage, and receiving government officials, on the occasion of the glorious Easter, and only prayers, in solidarity with our father, the Patriarch, Cardinal Louis Raphael Sako, who has been residing far from his historic headquarters in Baghdad, for six months, due to the President of the Republic. By withdrawing Republican Decree No. (147) of 2013 selectively, and without legal justification, but rather to appease a well-known political party that itself stated this in the media. Then, four months later, he withdrew the decrees of the bishops of the rest of the churches.
The Patriarch did not kill, did not steal public money, did not form a militia outside the law, and did not provoke sectarian strife. On the contrary, he defended the rights of citizens and full citizenship, contributed to activating interfaith dialogue, and helped hundreds of Iraqi families throughout Iraq through the Patriarchate and the Brotherhood of Love.. The Patriarch Sako is known for his faith, honesty, patriotism and courage, and he does not fear the corrupt! What this well-known faction is spreading are endless, practiced lies.
Our national expectations, since the President of the Republic took office, were for him to take the initiative to combat the corrupt and return the stolen money to the state treasury, and not to target peaceful Christians.
In this regard, His Beatitude stated to the Patriarchate website that he will never compromise at the expense of his dignity, the dignity of the Church, and the dignity of Christians, and he will not bow to anyone except his Church and his country.
On this occasion, he calls on Christians to remain, steadfast, and pray, with certainty that those in positions of authority will not last in their positions, nor will those in leadership remain in their leadership. The church will remain and will not be broken, with God’s help, and permanence is for the nations and the peoples!
