Top 5 Plays from Cowboys’ Victory over the Steelers

These Dallas Cowboys found a way to score twice in the last thirty seconds to propel the team to victory in a 35-30 win over Pittsburgh. There were many big plays in this game but here are five key plays that were keys to victory.
    Steelers attempting two-point conversions:
While watching this game it still boggles my mind why the steelers would try a two-point conversion on their first touchdown, just kick the single point. In fact, they tried it four times and failed on all four. And they played catchup all game. When they scored again, they tried to get the two points back to get up to 14, but missed. They tried again in the fourth quarter to go up three, but failed. Even at the end, had they just kicked extra points, they would’ve had four more points. That might have changed the way the Cowboys played the final two possessions because they wouldn’t have been able to settle for a field goal.
Holding call on Zach Martin paid dividends on long touchdown run for Elliott:
While it was a terrible call by the officials calling Zach Martin for holding and pinning the Cowboys back at their ten on a 1st and 25. At this point in the game, the Cowboys were playing conservative. A short throw to Cole Beasley set up a screen pass which the Cowboys were trying to get a first down which seemed impossible, but Ezekiel Elliott had other ideas and rambled 83 years for a touchdown. It not only got the cowboys a touchdown but relieved the pressure from Dak Prescott who was blitzed by the steelers quite often early on.
    Lucky Whitehead long punt return:
The Cowboys had just got off the field after an electrifying sack by DeMarcus Lawrence and after a booming punt, Lucky Whitehead returned the punt 39 yards to midfield which put the Cowboys offense in a short field. They answered with a 50-yard touchdown pass to Dez Bryant.

While it was an amazing play by Ben Roethlisberger on the fake kneel and throw for a touchdown, it left the Cowboys with extra time on the clock. Head coach Jason Garrett was about to call his first timeout but when he saw “Big Ben” calling for the spike to stop the clock, he backed off. While the Steelers ended up scoring a touchdown there, it gave the Cowboys the ball back with all three timeouts. Had he called a timeout, the Steelers still would’ve had to score, but the way they were moving the ball, it seemed likely they score a TD, leaving the Cowboys with less than 40 seconds. Fast forward to the game-winning TD. If the Cowboys don’t have a timeout in their pocket, they can’t run that play and likely have to kick the field goal with 15 seconds to play.
Incomplete pass to Witten on game-winning drive:
The face mask on Witten on the first down catch was a big play or the face mask they refs missed on Beasley’s catch. But on first down of that final drive, Prescott avoided pressure and dumped a pass off to Witten that fell short at his feet. That was a big incomplete pass because he was going to get tackled in the field of play, forcing the Cowboys to burn a timeout after a minimal gain. That proved to be a valuable incomplete pass.
