MOSCOW - The value of Russian arms exports for the year 2017 has exceeded 15 billion dollars, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday.
"The initial estimate is that the 2017 procurement program will be completed," he said in an interview with Russia's Kommersant newspaper on Wednesday. "Russia's exports last year were worth more than $ 15 billion."
He added: "Demand for Russian weapons continues, and we have not recorded any decline in this regard, regardless of anything, and the value of contracts reached about 45 billion dollars. Last year, new contracts were signed for the supply of weapons and military equipment and the provision of services worth more than 16 billion dollars. "
The official pointed to significant changes in the geographical distribution of Russia's potential partners in the field of military technical cooperation.
"We moved from the stage of talks to the serious stage of contracting and even signing contracts with countries that were buying arms from Russia on a very limited scale, or were not already buying them, such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain and Niger," he said.
