The government followed a policy of agriculture that marginalized national products at the expense of imports from abroad.

In this context, hundreds of farmers from the province of Basra and closed the port of Safwan, in protest against the neglect of locally produced tomatoes, and the smuggling and importation of tomatoes from several countries such as Iran and Syria.

Hundreds of Basra farmers protested in front of the Safwan border crossing and closed it because of the smuggling of tomatoes and imported from several countries such as Iran and Syria and the neglect of local Iraqi tomatoes.

The source added that hundreds of farmers appeared in video gathered at the port of Safwan border because of the smuggling of tomato crop.

The video showed that a number of farmers are closing the port to protest the import of tomatoes from several countries without resorting to local tomatoes.
