    Information / Report
The Sunni blocs began to feel the danger of losing their presidential position of heading the House of Representatives, after the sacked Speaker of the House, Muhammad al-Halbousi, worked to obstruct him.

The Federal Supreme Court terminated the membership of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad Al-Halbousi, and Representative Laith Al-Dulaimi, after examining on Tuesday 11/14/2023 the lawsuit filed by Al-Dulaimi against Al-Halbousi.
According to the ruling issued therein, it decided to terminate the membership of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad Rekan Al-Halbousi, and to terminate the membership of Representative Laith Mustafa Hamoud Al-Dulaimi, as of the date of issuance of the ruling on 11/14/2023, a final decision that is binding on all authorities.

This competition between the Sunni blocs for the position expresses the state of fragmentation in the Sunni House, which is experiencing its worst period, in contrast to the great cohesion in the Shiite House, which is waiting for them to settle matters on one candidate to vote on.
Sources indicate that the most prominent candidates for the position are Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani and Salem Al-Issawi.
The Sunnis began to move to end the issue away from Al-Halbousi, who was tweeting completely outside the flock, as this tweet began to make Al-Halbousi lose his influence even within his party, which began to disintegrate.
A leadership source in the Hasm Alliance revealed a Sunni agreement to hold a session to elect a new Speaker of the House of Representatives next Saturday, noting that the agreement was reached yesterday, Friday, by the host of the withdrawing candidate, Shaalan al-Karim, in the presence of the heads of the Sovereignty and Azm Alliance.
The source told Al-Maalouma, “The heads of the Azm and Sovereignty Alliance held a meeting yesterday, Friday, with the host of the MP who withdrew from the Shaalan Al-Karim Taqaddam Party, where it was agreed to ask the Presidency of Parliament to set next Saturday as a session to elect a new Speaker of Parliament.”

The source, who preferred to remain anonymous, added that “the meeting reached 45 representatives, and this number is sufficient to go to hold a session to elect the Speaker of Parliament for the Sunni component,” indicating that “the competition will take place between the Azm candidate, MP Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, and the sovereignty candidate, Salem Al-Issawi.”
It is noteworthy that the head of the Sovereignty Alliance, Khamis Al-Khanjar, the head of the Azm Alliance, Muthanna Al-Samarrai, the head of the Mass Party, Abdullah Al-Jubouri, Abu Mazen, and a number of representatives held a meeting yesterday, Friday, with the host of the withdrawing MP, Shaalan Al-Karim, in the Makishifa area in Salah al-Din Governorate, regarding getting out of the crisis in choosing a new speaker for Parliament.
For his part, the head of the Turkmen Parliamentary Front, Arshad al-Salhi, called on the Sunnis to unite their ranks and resolve the issue of the Speaker of Parliament.
Al-Salhi told Al-Maalouma, “The continuation of the dispute is not in the interest of the Sunnis. The crisis must be resolved, which requires them to set a specific agenda to get out of it.”
He added, "The unification of the Sunni house is a source of strength for the component and the entire political process to get out of the crisis of the presidency of Parliament, indicating that choosing an alternative president to Al-Halbousi requires unifying the Sunni Arab position."

He continued, "The Sunnis at this stage are more in need of unity than others, as the continuation of the dispute is not in their interest."
The scene remains as it is until the candidates are presented for a vote in the House of Representatives, as the coordination framework does not have any problem whoever is the Speaker of the House of Representatives, except that he is not involved in files of corruption or terrorism.
