Saudi Foreign Ministry announced that it will open its consulate general in the city of Basra soon.

"The opening of the consulate in Basra will take place soon, as part of the constructive relations between Saudi Arabia and Iraq and joint coordination to strengthen them in many fields," said Saudi Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Public Diplomacy Osama bin Ahmed Naqli.

"This step will support and broaden the horizons of cooperation to serve the interests of both countries and peoples," he said.

He pointed out that "Saudi-Iraqi relations have seen a growing development since Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi took over as prime minister four years ago."
