The governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, Mahdi Al-Alaq, opened Saturday the Baghdad International Conference on Arabic Calligraphy at Baghdad's Fine Arts Hall.
"The association of calligraphers has been established since 1974 and to this day its aim and its activities are to serve the art of calligraphy and preserve it through exhibitions and festivals, including current activity," said the head of the Iraqi Calligraphers Association, Rawdan Bahia Dawood.
He added that "this forum is an attempt to attract and display the technical efforts of our creative writers from inside and outside Iraq, and highlight their creative products."
The exhibition included more than 50 paintings representing the art of calligraphy, taghrai, kufi, farsi, darbah and others, in which Mr. Haider Rabea d. Akram Zarzis and Professor Mohammed Mersoumi d. Abdul Razzaq Kanani and others.
