, Minister of Water Resources, Mahdi Rashid Al-Hamdani, announced today, Sunday, his ministry's intention to sign memoranda of understanding for cooperation with the World Bank, ACSAD and many institutions of the international community during the work of the International Water Conference, indicating that the government has adopted a new policy through the green paper. .
Al-Hamdani said, "The memorandum signed yesterday with the United States of America is not the only one in the international water conference, but there are other memorandas that will be concluded for cooperation with the World Bank and ACSAD," noting that "memorandums will be signed with many institutions of the international community, successively within days." He added that "Iraq must open up to the world, as the climatic changes that have affected the region have made it necessary for everyone to play its part without any preconditions."
He pointed out that "Iraq is one of five countries that are greatly exposed to climatic changes that affect some countries with floods and others with drought," noting that "Iraq is among the countries exposed to droughts."
He stressed, "The government is keen and has adopted a new policy through the green paper, to take into account the changes that may occur."
The Minister of Water Resources called on the riparian countries to "sit together and address the problems with a special view of the downstream countries," stressing the need for "the riparian countries to have a role in the process of distributing the damage fairly."
