, Oil Minister Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar confirmed, today, Saturday, that smuggling is behind the fuel shortage in some provinces, and there is no intention to raise prices in order to stop it.
According to the official agency, Abdul-Jabbar said, "The fuel crisis in some governorates was caused by smuggling, and as long as the ministry sells a liter at 450 dinars and 400 dinars for gas oil at less than two-thirds of the world price, which reaches 1500 dinars, smuggling will continue.
He explained that "The operation is not smuggling outside the borders, but rather the issue concerns commercial consumers, some of them have a company or their own equipment, and there are consumers in the region and investment companies that take more quantities than they deserve from the stations."
He pointed out that "there are consumers who buy at the commercial price and compete with the citizen to buy the product at the subsidized price," noting, "There is no way to control the issue except by increasing the prices of oil products, and this is very specific in the Ministry of Oil in order to preserve the poor classes from additional pressures."
He added, "Improved gasoline is imported at a price of 1500 and is sold to the citizen at a price of 650 dinars, and this is a support from the ministry," noting that "oil loses billions of dollars through subsidies that go to the citizen at a low cost, as the cost of producing a barrel inside the refinery is more than The value of the product sold to citizens.
