Yesterday, the Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia'a Al-Sudani, issued an order to hold the borders between his country and both Syria and Iran.
And the Iraqi News Agency “INA” quoted the spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces in Iraq, Major General Yahya Rasool, as saying in a press conference: “The most important activities of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces is the meeting with the service and engineering effort, as he issued, during the Ministerial Security meeting, an order to hold the zero line between Iraq, Syria and Iran by the Iraqi forces and their logistical support ».
The length of the border between Syria and Iraq is 610 km, and three official crossings connect the two countries, which is the “Al-Yarubiyah” crossing in the north, and the “Rabi’a” crossing on the Iraqi side, which is under the control of the militias of the “Syrian Democratic Forces – SDF” and the American occupation, and in the middle is the “Al-Qaim” crossing. On the Iraqi side, which is met by “Al-Bukamal” and is under the control of the Syrian state, and to the south by the “Al-Walid” crossing on the Iraqi side, which is met by the “Al-Tanf” crossing on the Syrian side, which is occupied by the so-called “international coalition” led by America under the pretext of fighting terrorism.
Since the occupation of lands in northern and northeastern Syria by the American forces, they have opened, in collusion with the “Qasd” militia, illegal crossings in the lands they occupy in northeastern Syria with the Iraqi Kurdistan region, which are the Al-Walid crossing south of Al-Yarubiyah and the Semalka river crossing north of Al-Yarubiyah, in order to smuggle oil and wheat that it steals from Syria to the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
Rasool made it clear that Iraq is going through its best conditions in terms of security and safety, stressing that the defense forces made great sacrifices, and their consolidation requires a radical solution, stressing that Iraq has good relations with all neighboring countries.
He said, "The past month witnessed many events and activities that included the consolidation of international relations and the follow-up of technical matters, especially the great celebrations of Victory Day and the preparation for the 25th Gulf Championship," noting that the 102nd anniversary of the founding of the Iraqi army and the opening of the 25th Gulf in Basra will be on the same day.
The “Arabian Gulf 25” or “Gulf 25” cup is the twenty-fifth edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup competition, which is held every two years with the participation of the eight teams affiliated with the Arabian Gulf Cup Football Federation.
On the twenty-fourth of November, Iraq announced a plan to redeploy the border forces to hold the zero line along the borders with Iran and Turkey, in addition to securing all logistical support requirements for the leadership of the border forces, strengthening the human capabilities and necessary funds, and assigning them with equipment and others, in order to enable them to accomplish their tasks.
On the twenty-first of last September, the Iraqi Joint Operations Command confirmed the completion of the task of securing the borders with Syria.
At that time, the spokesman for the Operations Command, Tahsin Al-Khafaji, said: A security meeting was held at the Border Command headquarters with the Syrian side, and discussed responsibilities, discussed the exchange of information, border control, and preventing any smuggling or cross-border security breaches.
He added, "The meeting also discussed the potential and capabilities of the two sides in terms of border control, especially after the measures taken by the Joint Operations Command."
He pointed out that Iraq had resorted to building a dam, barriers, barbed wire, observation towers, and the first two lines of defense belonging to the Border Forces Command and the second to the Iraqi Army.
