The bank said, according to statements made by its representatives during the Baghdad conference, translated by (Baghdad Today), that the Iraqi authorities’ move towards constructing roads, land transport lines, and railways will enhance the “independence of the country” and provide an opportunity to combat rampant unemployment in the country by providing job opportunities for young people to build the project.
According to Iraki News, the Iraqi authorities have begun implementing a land transport project linking Iraq with Europe via Turkey, with a length of 1175 km, starting from the port of Faw to the village of Fish Khabur in Dohuk Governorate, and then to Turkey, with an expected value of about $17 billion.
The World Bank stressed the importance of public transport projects, including the current project, in “transforming Iraq into an important strategic corridor for transporting goods and commodities around the world, especially between the Gulf countries and Europe,” according to its description, calling for expediting the implementation of the project.
