The federal appeal of the Khor Abdullah agreement places Parliament in a state of emergency

The Federal Court’s ruling that the Khor Abdullah division agreement with Kuwait was unconstitutional brought matters back to the parliament arena to discuss how to sign such an agreement that affects the sovereignty and interests of Iraq during the era of previous governments.
Member of Parliament for the Services Committee, Ahmed Al-Sharmani, said in a statement to “Al-Sabah”: “The issue of the Khor Abdullah Agreement and the recent decision of the Federal Court are currently occupying the Council,” noting that “this comes at a time when inappropriate statements have appeared by a member of the National Assembly.” Kuwaiti.
Al-Sharmani says: “It turns out that there are niceties in the agreement, and it is known that Iraq is a country within the United Nations system and international agreements. International resolutions are binding, but we will not accept that these decisions are unfair or affect the country’s sovereignty,” adding that “the issue needs to open a high-level investigation.” To find out the circumstances, whether the agreement was professional, was it a courtesy, or had a political aspect, especially since the issue

Al-Sharmani continued by saying, “Parliament, as a supervisory body, will follow up on the issue to find out the truth. If there are agreements in the future that have legal loopholes and are not based on a law, there is nothing wrong with them being reconsidered, even if they meet all the legal conditions and are in the interest.”
