    Economy News - Baghdad
Advisor to the Prime Minister for Transport Affairs, Nasser Al-Asadi, confirmed that the Baghdad Metro will see the light soon, pointing out that the public transport sector needs radical solutions.
Al-Asadi said, "The public transportation file in Baghdad is very complex and needs radical solutions, not patchwork solutions."
He added, "Baghdad is properly designed, but it has not been modernized and maintained for 50 years," noting that there was no significant expansion of its streets.
He continued, "Baghdad's capacity is 450,000 cars, but there are currently approximately 5 million cars."
He stated, “There is a program with the current government’s solutions called the Integrated Transportation System Program, which links all means of transportation in the city to one “Cloud” so that the citizen can reach his goal through these means, including trains, public transportation buses, private transportation buses, cable cars, and bicycles.”
Al-Asadi said, among the solutions in the program is the Baghdad metro, which will see the light very soon, and the Prime Minister will announce it soon, indicating that this metro will cover 80% of Baghdad.
He noted, "There is a tram in the narrow areas of the capital that are not accessible by the metro, and it will help in the public transportation network within Baghdad."
He stressed that "these solutions must be sustainable and correct, and among these solutions is the provision of safe and sound means of transportation for citizens to move from one place to another in a decent manner."
He stated that "there is cooperation between all parties to address the reality of transportation," noting that "the government is in the process of implementing a passenger transport bus project."
