    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Consultant expert Haider Abdul-Jabbar Al-Battat confirmed today, Wednesday (January 3, 2024), that Iraq is facing a major water scarcity and a hot summer that will reduce the Iraqi per capita share of water .
Al-Battat said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that, “The Ministry of Oil will increase the exploratory blocks and the sixth licensing rounds will begin, and this will affect the waters greatly.”
He added, "What is required is to reconsider the licensing rounds in proportion to the amounts of water that will go to drilling and the needs of the oil wells."
Al-Battat pointed out that "increasing the oil extraction process will lead to increased global warming and increased carbon emissions."
Last September, Abdul Ghani said, at the first Iraq International Exhibition and Conference for Oil Projects and Licensing Rounds, that “Iraq has made great strides in enhancing areas of investment in the oil sector through petroleum licensing rounds, starting from the first round to the fifth round, whose contracts were signed at the beginning of The formation of this government increased the Iraqi oil and gas reserves by 6 billion barrels of oil and gas reserves by 32 billion standard cubic feet of gas.
Regarding water scarcity, Minister of Water Resources Aoun Diab announced in the middle of last month that 2022 was the worst year for water availability and we are thinking about ways to rationalize it.
