Iran's Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zangneh on Wednesday gave France's Total Group two months to get Washington exempt from US sanctions, otherwise the group would lose its stake in a massive project to develop the southern Fares gas field.
"Total has 60 days to negotiate with the US government," the minister said, quoted by the oil ministry news agency Shana. "The French government can also hold negotiations with the US government within this 60-day deadline to keep Total in Iran," he said.
Under the agreement, signed in July 2017, worth 4.8 billion dollars, Total owns 50.1 percent of the consortium that is developing Phase 11 of the South Pars field, followed by China's CNPC (30 percent) and Iran Petrovers (19.9%).
The French oil giant warned that it would end its major gas project in Iran unless it was exempted by the US authorities with support from France and the European Union.
The United States has announced the re-imposition of US sanctions on Iran as well as on all companies dealing with the Islamic Republic. The Americans gave the companies 90 to 180 days to leave Iran[/ltr]
