For his part, the Director of Al-Muthanna Planning, Qabil Hammoud Al-Barakat, told (Al-Sabah) that "the project to open the border crossing is an economic investment project and a strategic achievement that contributes to the advancement of the economic and commercial process in the province," explaining, "It helps to reduce the costs of import and transportation, and the distance between Iraq's exporting countries, thus reducing the prices of most imported goods through the port.
It is noteworthy that Muthanna is one of the poorest cities in Iraq, according to United Nations statistics and according to the statistics of the Iraqi Ministry of Planning, and this is due to the great state of neglect that it suffered over the previous periods.
