The General Secretariat of the Holy Shrine adopted modern technologies and surveillance cameras to monitor the conditions of the Arbaeen visit, while the Holy Husayn Shrine partially opened the city of Lady Fatima al-Zahra (peace be upon her), which is still under construction at the (Zarbatiya) border crossing, to provide services to the visitors.
The media official of the Holy Shrine, Haider Rahim, told Al-Sabah: The information technology center of the shrine has deployed more than three thousand cameras to monitor the entrances to the Holy Shrine and the controls surrounding the ancient city of Najaf, in order to maintain the security of visitors and help find those missing during the visit.
He added that the network of surveillance cameras will be strengthened with aerial photography technology, which supports the work of the field departments on the (Ya Hussein) road linking Najaf and Karbala, where the greatest momentum is for visitors heading to the holy Karbala. Rahim explained that the surveillance cameras will work around the clock to monitor the services provided to visitors and the flow of their entry into the shrine of Imam Ali (PBUH), and work with modern technologies, including face recognition, as well as the technique of counting the number of visitors with high accuracy.
Rahim stated that 19 devices were provided to check bags at the entrances leading to the shrine of Imam Ali (PBUH), with a rate of checking 1900 bags per hour at all entrances, with the provision of a specialized team to follow up the electronic examination devices for bags and metals.
It is worth noting that the Najaf Governorate used surveillance cameras in implementing its security plans for the first time last Eid al-Adha, and 510 surveillance cameras are currently deployed in about 100 locations in the main streets of the governorate within the Safe City project, which was launched early this year 2023, to enhance the security situation and rely on modern technology. For his part, the director in charge of managing the city of Lady Fatima Al-Zahra (peace be upon her) told visitors at the Zirbatiya port, Aqil Abbas Salman, in a statement: The representative of the supreme religious authority, and the legal guardian of the holy Husseini shrine, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalai, instructed a partial opening of the city that is still Under construction, in front of visitors coming from Iran to provide services coinciding with the Arbaeen visit. He added that the city contains a dispensary and medical clinics, in addition to a large mosque, and a host that provides food for three meals a day has been opened.
