Transport sets the operational frameworks for the large port of Al-Faw

The Ministry of Transport is working on drawing up general policy and setting operational frameworks for the Grand Al-Faw Port, with a view to approving it during the coming period, in light of the great progress of projects related to the port, continuing at the same time to develop the port sector and increasing trade exchange in the Welcome Square.
The spokesman for the ministry’s media office, Maitham Al-Safi, told “Al-Sabah”: The ministry is currently in the process of studying all the options proposed to formulate general policy and establish the frameworks and mechanism by which the port will be operated during the coming period, pointing out that the five projects in the port have exceeded the completion rate of 77 percent.
He explained that meetings are continuing with the Korean company Daewoo, which is executing the five projects mentioned, in addition to the supervising Italian company and the Turkish company specialized in reinforced concrete casting, to accelerate work on the submerged tunnel project that will connect Al-Faw port to the ports of Umm Qasr, noting that the operations of pounding the piles in the five berths project are about to begin. In completion, 1,708 pillars have been installed, and only 28 pillars remain for all of them to be completely completed.
Al-Safi noted that the Ministry has prepared a plan to develop work in the field of ports and trade exchange procedures in the Grand Welcome Square in Umm Qasr, especially after introducing customs transactions to a new stage and ending the overlap between port and customs work and overcoming the momentum and accumulation of trucks and the delay of goods, following the adoption of an integrated electronic system in its systems. This contributed to the increase in the rate of trade exchange operations there.
