"Israel" proposes linking Saudi Arabia through a railway

    06/04/2017

Minister of Transport of the Israeli entity, "Yisrael Katz" suggested on Wednesday, linking "Israel" in Jordan and Saudi Arabia via rail to ship goods and passenger transport.

The proposal provides that the railway from Haifa starts, passing through the city of Beit She'an, including to the King Hussein Bridge and Irbid Jordan, before it reaches the last station, the Saudi city of Dammam.

He said Katz told a news conference that the railway will contribute to the strengthening of the economy in both Jordan and the Palestinian Authority and "Israel". The Israeli minister refused to confirm whether the Arab countries have agreed to the initiative.

The Israeli entity opened after the outbreak of the crisis in Syria in 2011 the port of Haifa as a corridor coming from Turkey and Europe for goods to be transported by truck to the east located in the Arab countries, but traffic was limited due to limited quantities and political opposition.

He added that Jason Greenblatt, an envoy of US President Donald Trump, expressed his enthusiasm for the plan when he was offered during the regional visit.

Katz said he explained the US envoy said that the project does not need financial support for its implementation, but to support in front of Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states, as private companies will finance the railway network in the Arab side after the expected financial profits.

The Israeli minister ruled out that this railway affect the movement of trade through Egypt's Suez Canal, which connects the Mediterranean to the Red Sea.
