Baghdad/Al-Masala Al-Hadath: Analysis indicates that the Iraqi Prime Minister’s visit to the United States of America did not achieve the liberation of Iraq from American control at the military, economic, and political levels. The continued attacks on American forces by armed factions are one of the reasons that push the United States to adhere to its policies in Iraq.
Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani's meeting with US President Joe Biden and a number of US officials discussed several issues, including the removal of foreign forces from Iraq led by the United States.
The United States is dissatisfied with the rigid position adopted by Iraq on the Palestinian issue, and because of this, it does not wish to strengthen Iraqi military power except within specific limits. The United States carefully monitors Iraq's air defense capabilities, which are considered weak, but rejects Iraq's possession of an advanced military force. Consequently, the United States refuses to provide Iraq with important arms deals such as advanced air defense systems, and hinders Iraqi efforts to obtain these systems from other countries.
Moreover, the United States uses its veto power to restrict the diversification of Iraqi arms sources. Washington thwarted Iraq's purchase of the Russian SS-400 air defense system, which took place during the era of former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
The analysis shows the United States' commitment to maintaining its influence and control in Iraq, whether at the military, economic or political levels. Despite the efforts made by Iraq to strengthen its sovereignty and independence, the relationship between the two countries remains complex and faces many challenges. In return, America seeks to give the Kurdistan region advanced air defense weapons in exchange for withholding them from Baghdad.
A source in the National Security Advisory confirmed that Russia expressed its readiness to cooperate with Iraq in the field of cybersecurity, technologies, and armament that Iraq and its security and military forces need.
A report revealed that the US Department of Defense, the Pentagon, has begun preparations to transfer a group of air defense systems in preparation for their delivery to the Peshmerga forces in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
