A French woman arrested along with her four children in the city of Mosul faces a possible trial in Iraq for allegedly collaborating with a sympathetic organization.
The fate of children, aged 6 and 8 years, is unknown and legally unclear. Their father's hideout is still unknown.
The French woman's lawyer said the family should be brought to France, but French government spokesman Christophe Castanier said Wednesday that the mother should be tried in Iraq, saying she was not in Mosul "for tourism."
France estimates that there are 750 French citizens among extremists in Iraq and Syria, including 450 children
