The Russian private group Novatik, which heads an international team leading the project, decided to send the first shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the port of Sabita today, after this week announced the start of production of gas on the first line of production, estimated at 5.5 million tons per year.

The $ 27 billion project, one of the world's largest and most ambitious projects, aims to build a gas liquefaction plant that will allow the production of 16.5 million tons per year, starting in 2019, in three stages.
The launch of the project, owned by Novatech, French Total and the Chinese National Oil Company and Silk Road Fund, has been a major success following technical and financial challenges.
The Yamal peninsula has enormous wealth, but it is an isolated area in the north of the Arctic Circle, 2,500 kilometers from Moscow, and its temperature can drop to 50 below zero.
Since its inception, the project has required the construction of an airport, port and storage facility, and the same plant, despite the long-year ice.
According to Agence France-Presse, Samuel Lusac, an expert in the Russian fuel sector at Wood Mackenzie, said: "Despite the difficult investment conditions, Yamal LNG was delivered on time with respect to the budget."[/size]
