The White House confirmed that the information announced by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Iran's nuclear program provides new and convincing details regarding Iran's efforts to develop missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

"The facts are consistent with what the United States has long known that Iran has a strong and secret nuclear weapons program," he said in a statement, adding that Iran had failed to hide its nuclear program from its people and the world, despite its attempts.

The White House pointed out that the Iranian regime has shown its use of destructive weapons against its neighbors and others, stressing that Iran should not possess nuclear weapons.

US President Donald Trump commented on Netanyahu's comments, saying "what Israel did with the press conference is the right thing to do," adding that it was unacceptable to allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.

He said he would announce his decision on the nuclear deal before May 12, but stressed that this did not mean that he would not seek to negotiate a good agreement different from the current agreement, which is detrimental to the interests of the United States.

Netanyahu said at a news conference on Monday that Israel had received a total of 110,000 pages of Iran's nuclear archive containing documents, photographs and videos proving Tehran's quest to develop a nuclear weapon.

He added that the documents show a program named Amad, which began in 1999, and aims to develop nuclear missiles, more than the capacity of the missile that was dropped on Hiroshima five times. Netanyahu pointed out that the documents are authentic and the United States can confirm its sincerity, as he put it.
