The population of the Chinese capital Beijing fell in 2017 for the first time in 20 years, Xinhua news agency reported.
The number of permanent residents was 21.707 million last year, down 22,000 from a year earlier, the agency said late on Thursday.
According to Xinhua, citing the People's Congress of the city, the population of the six urban districts in Beijing fell three percent from 2016.
The Beijing authorities are making efforts to curb population growth as they try to tackle traffic congestion, lack of resources and rising housing prices.

The population of the Chinese capital Beijing fell in 2017 for the first time in 20 years, Xinhua news agency reported.
