Al-Maliki announces a firm stand against the candidate for prime minister

Shafak News / The leader of the State of Law coalition, Nuri al-Maliki, said on Thursday that he does not support a candidate for prime minister who does not have the support of a majority of Shiites and national forces.
Maliki said in a tweet on his account in "Twitter", "There is no doubt that our steadfast position is that we support the majority candidate in the largest component, which must obtain the approval of the national space blocks."
And he added, "We cannot support any candidate who lacks one of these two dimensions, because we fear the consequences of the intersections and their impact on the besieged political process with more than one challenge," referring to his refusal to assign Adnan Al-Zarfi to form a government.
On March 16, Iraqi President Barham Salih, who heads the parliamentary "Al-Nasr" parliamentary bloc and the former governor of Najaf, was assigned to form a government within a period of 30 days.
Al-Zrafi faces rejection from prominent Shiite forces close to Iran, headed by the “Al-Fateh” coalition led by Hadi al-Amiri, the “State of Law” coalition led by Nuri al-Maliki and the “stream of wisdom” led by Ammar al-Hakim, which makes the task of passing his government in parliament extremely difficult.
Al-Zorfi's assignment, seen as close to America, came after former Prime Minister-designate Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi stepped down from the task of forming the government following his failure to persuade the Sunnis and Kurds to support his cabinet and his government program.
The next government will succeed the government of Adel Abdul-Mahdi, who resigned on the first of last December, under the pressure of continuous popular protests since the beginning of last October.
The next government is awaiting huge challenges represented by fighting the Coronavirus and a sharp drop in oil prices, as the country relies on revenues from the sale of crude to finance up to 95 percent of the country's expenditures.
