The Parliamentary Education Committee asked, on Wednesday, the government to allocate funds to students to encourage and motivate them to continue working hours.
A member of the Parliamentary Education Committee, Hoshyar Qardagh, said, "There are many reasons behind the increase in illiteracy, most notably the political, economic and social conditions, as well as the existing corruption that made the government not interested in the educational aspect."
He added that "the country has gone through difficult conditions and a period of wars in front of (ISIS) gangs that have disrupted the education system," noting that his committee called on the government to increase the financial allocations for the Ministry of Education, "but what is unfortunate is the government's lack of interest in the educational aspect."
Qardagh indicated that "the economic situation has affected students leaving school seats and turning to work," noting their demands "to provide financial allocations for students, especially for the early stages, to encourage them to continue working hours."
