The Parliamentary Labor and Social Affairs Committee has determined, on Thursday, the number of foreign workers in Iraq, while revealing the amount of money leaving Iraq per month due to foreign workers.
The deputy head of the Parliamentary Labor and Social Affairs Committee, Hussein Arab, said, according to the official agency, that "there is no specific number for the number of foreign workers in Iraq, but the approximate number ranges between 600 and 800,000 foreign workers," noting that "the number does not reach one million."
He added that "the committee does not have complete information about foreign workers in Iraq," noting that "the entry of foreign workers is carried out through the region by granting them entry visas, as well as from the Ministries of Labor and Interior also granting entry visas, as well as the Investment Authority."
He stressed that "all institutions have the responsibility to think about and prepare the mechanism for foreigners' work in Iraq," noting that "the hard currency that comes out of Iraq because of employment amounts to more than 400 million dollars per month, most of it from the official ways and a small part of it through unofficial."
He added, "Most of the currencies that come out through investment companies and their amounts are very high, as some salaries range between 8,000 to 10,000 dollars per month, which affects the Iraqi market and economy."
The Labor and Social Affairs Committee confirmed, at the beginning of last May, that foreign labor causes the expulsion of hard currency from the country, noting that the entry of such labor had a negative impact and caused an increase in the number of the unemployed. Ended 29/A43
