Yesterday, Monday, the Integrity Committee in the House of Representatives demanded to ban the travel of senior tax authority employees until the investigation into the theft of 3.7 trillion dinars from the authority’s secretariats is completed. Committee member Ahmed Taha Al-Rubaie said, "The committee continues to follow up the file of the stolen amounts from the trust account belonging to the Tax Authority at Al-Rafidain Bank."
Al-Rubaie added, "An official document we received from the Ministry of Finance confirms that the amount of stolen deposits reached 3.7 trillion dinars." He pointed out, "The committee obtained a detailed report from the Ministry of Finance with the amounts for all the details and the bodies responsible for them." Al-Rubaie confirmed, "We are in contact with the judicial and regulatory authorities, and we will follow up on the progress of the investigation until all those involved in this crime are held accountable and the stolen money is returned." Al-Rubaie stressed that "the committee reiterated the demand to the competent government agencies to prevent the travel of some managers and senior cadres in the Tax Authority, especially those who were replaced until the completion of administrative and judicial investigations." For his part, another member of the committee, Abdul Rahim Al-Shammari, stated that “Parliament has to hold an extraordinary session in order to discuss the file of theft of tax authority funds.”
Al-Shammari continued, "This session requires the presence of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, the former Minister of Finance, the Undersecretary of the Ministry and all concerned departments."
And he warned, “This incident does not pass without an account, as it affects the future of Iraq.”
