Al-Halbousi said that the selection of the Basra governorate was among the committee's first field visits, as it is the largest oil-producing governorate, as it produces approximately 90% of the total Iraqi oil production, and is considered the most funding source for the federal financial budget.
He added that the Parliamentary Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Committee is serious about supporting the Basra Oil Company, and overcoming all the difficulties and obstacles it faces, noting that the committee will work to secure the required financial allocations to support the company, in coordination with the Finance Committee, and in the presence of the Ministers of Oil and Finance.
For his part, the director of the Basra Oil Company gave a briefing on the company's work and the amount of oil production, and plans to increase production for the year 2029 from 3,200,000 to 5,000,000, indicating the need to make financial allocations to complete important projects In this framework, and a detailed presentation was also made about the contract of the French company Total regarding the gas project.
