the head of the Integrity Commission, Judge Haider Hanoun, stated, on Tuesday, that the number of judicial decisions issued in absentia by the Commission, to extradite defendants who fled abroad in corruption cases and recover smuggled funds during the past year, amounted to 570 decisions.
Hanoun explained, in an interview with the official newspaper, that "the decisions were distributed by 301 judicial decisions in absentia to receive convicts and accused fugitives outside the country who are wanted by the judiciary, and there are 23 extradition files against wanted ministers, people with special degrees, general managers, and those of their rank for the same period."
Regarding the recovery of smuggled funds, he stated that it "issued 269 judicial decisions in absentia against 125 accused and convicts," noting that "the action taken against the fugitive accused or convict after arrest varies according to the country and the conditions stipulated in international conventions, the dual nationality of the accused or convict, or the availability of requirements The international recovery file sent by the Authority's recovery department.
Hanoun continued, "The General Commission opened 138 extradition files to prove that they left the country after the investigation, while 43 of them are still under investigation about their places of residence to indicate whether they were inside the country or left it, while the Commission stopped investigations against 120 defendants to prove that they did not leave," revealing "The number of files completed in this context has reached 28."
