    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Thursday (October 5, 2023), a security source revealed the details of the recent security meeting held by National Security Advisor Qassem Al-Araji with Iranian officials in Tehran.
The source told "Baghdad Today", "In the recent visit of the security delegation to Tehran, the Iranian authorities requested the handover of the leaders of the first row of the opposition Kurdish parties present on the territory of the region."
He added, "The Iraqi delegation, which includes security representatives from the region, informed the Iranian side that those leaders left Kurdistan for Europe some time ago, especially after news of their targeting by Tehran."
    Meeting details
Last Monday (October 2, 2023), the media office of the Iraqi National Security Advisor, Qasim Al-Araji, issued a statement announcing the details of the meeting of the Supreme Committee for Implementing the Security Agreement between Iraq and Iran with its counterpart, which was held in the Iranian capital, Tehran.
According to a statement from Al-Araji’s office that was received by “Baghdad Today,” “Under the guidance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, the Supreme Committee for Implementing the Joint Security Agreement between Iraq and Iran met, in the Iranian capital, Tehran, with its Iranian counterpart, and the committee held an important meeting with its Iranian counterpart.” The National Security Advisor, Qassem Al-Araji, chaired the Iraqi side in the meeting, while the Secretary-General of the Iranian National Security Council, Dr. Ahmadian, chaired the Iranian side, in the presence of all members of the committee.
According to the statement, “The meeting witnessed a review of the stages of implementation of the security agreement between the two countries on the ground, and what has been achieved and what remains to be accomplished. The National Security Advisor, Qasim Al-Araji / Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Implementing the Security Agreement between Iraq and Iran, also outlined the stages of work that Iraq implemented in The area that was identified and which was occupied by the Iranian opposition, which was all evacuated and the Iranian opposition elements were disarmed, according to the agreement, and federal forces were deployed in it and placed far from the border, indicating that the Kurdistan Regional Government was serious in implementing the obligations that were set for it.”
Al-Araji stressed, according to the statement, that “Al-Sudani is carefully following the path of implementation of this agreement, and that Iraq is keen on Iran’s security and will not allow its territory to be a starting point for destabilizing the security of any neighboring country, stressing the importance of Iranian officials informing the Iraqi side if any developments arise.” “The necessary action will be taken.”
Al-Araji indicated during the meeting - according to the statement - that “Iraq is continuing to implement all the provisions of the joint security agreement between Iraq and Iran, and that the partnership, historical depth and growing relations between the two countries became clear during the Arba’een visit after Iraq embraced the Iranian visitors and provided services, cooperation and facilitation to them, which is evidence On the depth of the ties between the two countries and the two neighboring peoples.
According to the statement, during the meeting, issues and files of common interest were discussed, as well as important topics related to protecting the borders and security of the two neighboring countries, and continuing joint coordination to complete all paragraphs of the security agreement.
    The Iraqi-Iranian agreement
Prior to that, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani confirmed, on Monday (October 2, 2023), that the date for the security agreement with Iraq, regarding the dismantling of the camps of the Iranian Kurdish opposition parties located in the Kurdistan region, northern Iraq, was on the 19th of last month, indicating that “According to our estimates, parts of the agreement have been implemented and other parts have not been implemented.”
In his weekly press conference, Kanaani revealed that Iran sent a team to Iraq to closely examine the process of implementing the security agreement with Baghdad and prepare a report on that. He continued that the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan region authorities confirmed their commitment to implementing the agreement and “announced that a large number of headquarters had been evacuated.” And transport it deep into Iraq."
    Iranian threats
It is noteworthy that Iran has threatened several times before that if the forces of the Iranian Kurdish parties are not “disarmed” and transferred from areas near Iran’s borders, it will attack the Kurdish parties in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
Tehran and Baghdad signed an agreement within a period of 6 months in Baghdad on March 19, 2023, in a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani.
In this context, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein traveled to Tehran on September 13, and said during a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart that the Kurdish parties based in the Kurdistan region would be transferred to a refugee “camp” under the supervision of the United Nations.
At the same time, Fouad Hussein stressed that "the literature of threats of bombing and military attack" should not be used to resolve issues between the two countries. He added: "We need a guarantee from Iran that it will not use the language of attack and violence."
Four days after this meeting, Kurdish sources announced the completion of the transfer of Kurdish groups opposed to the Iranian regime from areas near the Iranian border in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
