The Kurdistan Democratic Party bloc reported that the border crossings are among the most important points of discussions between the federal government and the regional government because they are considered “non-oil” revenues, indicating that “the region must hand over half of them to Baghdad in accordance with the Financial Management Law.”
The head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party parliamentary bloc, Vian Sabri, told Al-Sabah: “The region’s delegation that recently visited Baghdad included among its discussions and dialogues the issue of border crossings, which are considered federal non-oil revenues within the budget.”
She explained that "reaching understandings on this issue is very important, and we know that non-oil revenues, such as border crossings, airports, and other federal fees, such as passports, residency, and the unified national card, must all be included within the Financial Management Law, and according to this law, half of the revenues collected by the region must return to the government." "Federal".
She added, "These trivialities are very important, as we are approaching the end of 2023," explaining that "reaching understandings on these issues is very important, and we are trying to reach solutions regarding them between the Baghdad government and the regional government."
She pointed out that "the 2024 budget will be better than this year, although there are some obstacles, including the election of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, who also needs some understandings."
