    Today, Thursday (December 28, 2023), Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez affirmed the desire of Spanish companies to contribute to building Iraq, while calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
    The Spanish President, during a press conference held with Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, expressed his “gratitude for the warm reception,” noting that “this visit came in response to the invitation extended by the Prime Minister last September.”
    He added, "The meeting with the Prime Minister was fruitful," stressing "his intention to meet with the President of the Republic and the Spanish soldiers, whether in the anti-ISIS coalition or within the framework of NATO."
    He referred to "the issues that were discussed with the Prime Minister," noting "the new joint relations between Spain and Iraq and their continuation."
    He stressed "the commitment to the security and stability of Iraq through the presence of soldiers in the country," noting that "the Spanish general has been leading the NATO mission since last May."
    He added, "The sovereignty, security and stability of Iraq, in addition to bilateral relations, have great potential for development. We will make a joint declaration between Spain and Iraq, and all areas of work will be identified. It will represent a road map for future cooperation between the two countries, and thus setting ambitious goals at the political, economic, commercial, cultural, and educational levels."
    He added, "It was agreed to hold a meeting of the Joint Mixed Committee in Baghdad next year, and this meeting will represent an important milestone in pushing relations forward," noting that "there is great readiness by Spanish companies within the framework of participation in the development of Iraq and further cooperation, which will benefit both countries."     He continued, "We discussed the situation in the Middle East and the government's support for protecting international forces in Iraq, as well as the tragic situation in Gaza," expressing his "rejection of the killing of civilians, especially thousands of children and women, and the repercussions of the situation on the Palestinian population."
