    Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez confirmed on Thursday the desire of Spanish companies to contribute to building Iraq.
    This came in a joint press conference held with his Iraqi counterpart, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, during his official visit to the capital, Baghdad, which is the first to Iraq.
    Sanchez said during the joint press conference that he held a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart, stressing the need to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
    Meanwhile, the Iraqi government said in a statement that Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez held a bilateral meeting Thursday morning, during which they discussed cooperation relations between the two countries and ways to develop them.
    After the meeting, the two sides chaired the expanded discussions held by the delegations of the two countries, which discussed a number of files and endeavors to conclude economic partnerships. It was agreed to begin joint efforts to conclude a strategic partnership agreement between the two countries, and to resume the work of the joint committee at its 13th session in the middle of the new year.
    During the meeting, the Prime Minister pointed out the promising opportunities, cooperation and partnership with the Spanish side, and ways for leading Spanish companies to contribute to development projects, as well as cooperation in the security, cultural, environmental and sustainable development fields, and the possibility of achieving economic and investment progress that benefits the two friendly peoples mutually.
    He stressed Iraq's readiness to benefit from Spanish expertise in the field of solar energy, tourism, antiquities, and aspects related to confronting climate change, noting that it issued directives to ministries and institutions to be open to cooperation with Spanish companies.
    The discussions dealt with a number of regional issues of common interest, and strengthening bilateral positions regarding the various challenges taking place in the region. The Prime Minister appreciated the Spanish government’s positions in condemning the aggression against Gaza, and its steps to support relief efforts for the Palestinian people, reiterating his emphasis on the need for the international community to take its role. To stop the grave violations taking place in the Palestinian territories.
    For his part, the Spanish Prime Minister expressed his country's desire to develop relations with Iraq, especially in the fields of transportation, defense, education, and confronting climate change, calling on Iraq to join an international coalition to confront desertification and combat climate change.
    Sanchez praised Iraq's role in establishing security in the region, stressing that Spanish companies will serve the Iraqi government's plans. He also stated that what is happening in Palestine is a humanitarian issue, stressing the necessity of a ceasefire in Gaza, delivering humanitarian aid to the Palestinians, and working to establish a Palestinian state. His country also I share the concerns and positions of the Secretary-General of the United Nations regarding the aggression in Palestine.
