The Ministry of Electricity announced that the system lost more than 4,000 megawatts due to the scarcity of gas supplied from Iran.
Electricity stated in a statement received by Al Mada that it “has worked for more than a year in a race against time, deriving its inspiration from the large plans that were implemented to develop the electricity file in all its sectors (production, transmission, and distribution), and has achieved unprecedented production stability rates that reached a peak.” Summer loads of more than 25,800 megawatts, and it achieved a qualitative breakthrough in the transportation sector, in which it brought about major expansions of its conversion stations, and the establishment of dozens of ultra-high and high pressure transmission lines, and restored a large part of it to work after it had been destroyed and idle since it was sabotaged by terrorist gangs, and supported the distribution sector to achieve increase and stability. This is evident in the governorates’ shares of energy and thus an unprecedented improvement in processing hours.”
The statement pointed out the Ministry’s keenness “to reduce dependence on supplied gas through the establishment of combined cycle projects, activating thermal plants, and establishing solar energy projects. Today, the scarcity of supplied gas releases is again affecting power stations, and has led to the system losing more than 4,000 megawatts, due to... Stopping it completely from Baghdad and the central regions, and reducing it from the southern region, where the gas pumped at 10 million cubic meters does not meet the needs of the production stations, and it affected the limitation of their loads and caused a decrease in supply.”
He stressed that “Electricity is working in accordance with government directives and in coordination with the Ministry of Oil to compensate for the lost gas supplies, to operate its stations on alternative fuels, until the pumping of gas stopped due to (maintenance work inside the Islamic Republic of Iran) resumes.”
The Ministry called for “understanding electricity’s obligations and duties, as gas releases are not one of its obligations, and we hope that they will contribute to controlling the loads until the gas and system situation returns.”
