    Today, Wednesday (February 7, 2024), the head of the Al-Azm Alliance in Diyala Governorate, Representative Raad Al-Dahlaki, called on the Presidency of the House of Representatives and the political forces to take a clear and firm stance to proceed with the approval of the general amnesty law, while indicating that what happened with the detainee (Muhammad Turki Muhammad Al-Zubaie) represents a disgrace. A shame and a blow to human rights in the new Iraq.
    Al-Dahlaki said in a statement received by "Baghdad Today", "The pictures circulated by media institutions and social media of the detainee (Muhammad Turki Muhammad Al-Zubaie), who was detained for a period exceeding sixteen years and died due to medical negligence and the failure to provide him with treatment after suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis and kidney failure, This was not satisfied with this, but his body was thrown on the ground without the slightest consideration for the standards of humanity and respect for human rights, in a shameful situation that represents a disgrace to all concepts of human rights in the new Iraq.”
    Al-Dahlaki added, “What happened and is happening inside the prisons, we put before the eyes of the Prime Minister, the Presidency of the House of Representatives, the Minister of Justice, and all the political and religious forces in the new Iraq, to ​​clarify what is happening and whether this is a democratic Iraq that respects human beings,” stressing that “human beings, no matter what they are.” His crime, regardless of any judicial rulings, as long as he was detained, he should be dealt with with all humanity in accordance with the law, but what we see of the atrocities taking place behind bars puts us before a humane and moral position in ending this chaos and taking immediate action to investigate everything that is happening inside the prisons.”
    He stressed "the necessity of accelerating the legislation of the general amnesty law and the release of all detainees on malicious charges and the secret informant, and that this humanitarian file be kept away from the political outbidding or sectarian hatreds that have devastated the country and the people, with an emphasis on providing the appropriate situation inside the prisons in terms of food or treatment, and holding all negligent parties accountable." in dealing with this file.
    On January 31, 2024, the Iraqi Center for Documentation of War Crimes announced the death of a detainee in Iraqi prisons, after the authorities responsible for running the prison “neglected” to treat him, as his body was dumped in a yard adjacent to the prison.
    The center documented the death of detainee Muhammad Turki Muhammad al-Zubaie inside Karkh prison in Baghdad, nearly 16 years after his arrest, noting that the victim, a resident of the Abu Ghraib district west of the capital, was arrested in August 2008 and died on January 31 as a result of his injury. He suffered from pulmonary tuberculosis and kidney failure after he suffered over the years of his detention from medical negligence and the prison administration’s refusal to provide him with treatment.
    The center indicated that the prison administration threw the victim’s body in the yard opposite the prison, while it refused throughout the duration of his detention to allow his family to visit him or learn about his fate.
