BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The Sadigoun bloc warned on Sunday that the American side is seeking to bolster its presence in Iraq and stabilize its bases in the west of the country, saying the government has not fulfilled its promises to the Iraqi people on scheduling the withdrawal of US forces from the country.
"The United States is seeking to strengthen its presence in Iraq and the region by expanding its bases, especially Ain al-Assad and Balad," Hassan Salim, head of the bloc, told al-Maaloumah.
"The central government has promised to schedule the withdrawal of foreign forces, headed by the US, and denied at the same time the absence of any bases for the Americans in Iraq," Salem said, adding that "there is a contradiction in statements about that presence."
Salem said that "the American side confirmed during press statements, not to repeat the mistake of the exit from Iraq, which was carried out in 2011," and that "these statements are conclusive evidence of the US administration's efforts to keep its troops in Iraq for a long time." Ending / 25 n
